Most knitted work wear consists of pullovers worn by fishermen and farmers. The Aran patterns in our hand knit section use some of the stitch patterns used in these traditional garments, but these are fashion garments, knitted in heavier yarn than normal work wear and fit loosely as is the current fashion. Work wear however varies from the fashion sweaters in that the body and sleeves fit tightly round the wearer to avoid the garment catching on the ropes, lines and nets (hooks are a different problem!!). The tight fitting body would normally restrict movement, and this is avoided by sewing in a gusset under each arm. They also have high turtle/polo necks. We can knit to order as work wear, any of the Aran styles in the hand knit section, and will shortly be introducing some Jersey, Guernsey and other fishing port stitch patterns to our range of garments.
